Abstract
Background: This study examines the relationships among moonlighting intention, workplace support, and job satisfaction among legal professionals. The research specifically investigates the workplace support received by employees who engage in moonlighting while performing their professional duties. While previous studies have emphasized the financial motives for moonlighting, this study focuses on workplace conditions and the support employees receive within their work environment. Method: A snowball sampling technique was used to collect data from legal professionals in India who engage in moonlighting. A total of 310 respondents participated in the study. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was employed to examine the proposed relationships among the study variables. Key Results: The results reveal that moonlighting intention has a positive effect on job satisfaction, while workplace support positively influences employees' satisfaction with their work environment and partially mediates the relationship between moonlighting intention and job satisfaction. The findings suggest that supportive organizational environments may help employees manage the resource depletion associated with intentions to hold multiple jobs. Implications: The findings extend the conservation of resources (COR) theory perspective by identifying workplace support as a critical resource-conserving mechanism. The study also provides practical insights for organizations seeking to maintain employee well-being in resource-constrained contexts.
